I think the theme of this book is courage. I think its courage because everyday, she either gets pushed around by her brother or sister. But she finds the courage and strength in her self to just brush it all off, and the only real place she feels safe and loved is when she is at school. Almost every week, she trys her best in school, so she can make her father proud and ends up getting a medal. Even though her sister gets mad for wearing the medal, she still has the courage to wear it. I feel that even though she is living a very hard and rough life, she will soon use that strength and courage, to make her stronger and like an even better and outgoing person.
I believe that the theme ‘Family Relationships’ is important to the story Chinese Cinderella because the bad family relationships between the protagonist (Adeline) and the rest of her family was the reason why she was having so many hardships. In the story, Adeline did not have a good relationship with her father and all of her siblings because they all thought of her as a curse for killing her mother (which was unintentional). Because of this relationship, Adeline is ignored and must put up with the trouble she gets from siblings. For example, one day when Adeline was riding home from school with Older Sister, Older Sister slapped her because Adeline had been winning the class medal every week. If Adeline had a better relationship with Older Sister, Older Sister probably would have congratulated Adeline instead of slapping her. Besides just her siblings, Adeline is ignored by her stepmother, who only cares for her own children. In the sixth chapter, Adeline’s family relationship with the other members of her family left her to find a way to and from her new school. If Adeline’s relationship with her stepmother was better, and her stepmother actually paid attention to her, she might thought about her step daughter’s situation and given her a way to get to and from school. Thus, it makes bad family relationships a critical part of Chinese Cinderella because with good relationships, Adeline wouldn’t have had to deal with Older Sister slapping her or not having a mode of transportation to and from school.
When you hear the word lonely, it may be a word that is sad and depressing. To me, this word plays a big part in the story “Chinese Cinderella.” I think that the word “loneliness” plays an important part in this story because even though the Chinese Cinderella has a big family, she doesn’t have anyone in her family to play with or talk to. Everyone in her family thinks she’s a jinx and they exclude her. That’s why she is always lonely and she is all by herself. One example of her feeling lonely was when someone forgot to pick her up from school. For hours, she was all by herself wondering the streets, which is very dangerous for little girls. She was sad and worried about being alone by her self. Her family didn’t even realize that she was gone and they weren’t even concerned about her. Another example was when her family killed her duck. Family friends gave ducks to her and the siblings that shared the same mother as her. Adeline, also known as the protagonist, had a duck she cherished and nicknamed PLT. One day, Father wanted to test his dog’s obedience and told the eldest son to bring down a duck. All the children loved their ducks, but he brought down PLT. PLT got killed by the dog and she felt heartbroken. She felt like no one cared about her and she cried all night.
Many stories apprise the importance of courage. Chinese Cinderella is one of them. In the story, Adeline demonstrates the act of courage numerous times. When her little sister was trying to avoid her step mother, the step mother started to beat her. No one attempted to prevent the beating, so Adeline stepped up to the task. She briefly shouted for her step mother to stop. This event exemplified courage. None of her family members even dared to try and stop the step mother. Another way Adeline demonstrates courage, is how she did in school. In her first week of winning the accolade from her school, she received derision from her siblings. Most kids would just stop trying at the level she was at in school, and just be an average student. Instead, Adeline kept persisting to keep up her outstanding academics. She then proceeded to receive the accolade for the longest time period out of her entire grade. This why courage plays an enormous aspect in Chinese Cinderella.
I think courage is the main theme in the story "Chinese Cinderella." When Adeline won the award in the first week of kindergarten, she was proud of it and wore it everyday. Even though her siblings made fun of her all the time she still had the courage to wear it. During her sister's beating from her step mom, she was the only one in her family to stick up for her. I agree with Teresa and Nathan about how the theme so far in this story is courage.
The theme of Chinese Cinderella is courage. An example of courage was when Adline was beaten by her step mother. Even though she was being beaten, noone seemed to help her. Adeline told the step mother to stop beating her. This is one reason why courage is a big part in Chinese Cinderella. Another example of how Chinese Cinderella shows courage is when Adeline had to walk and endure storms. She only did this so her Aunt and Grandpa never got any trouble from Niang.
I think that the theme of Chinese Cinderella is “Family Relationships”. Adeline (the protagonist) doesn’t have the best relationship with her family. This is what causes a lot of her problems like being blamed for her mother’s death, and getting hurt from her brothers and sisters. The first reason that I think the theme of Chinese Cinderella is “Family Relationships” is because Adeline’s relationship with her father is very distant. For example, page 30 talks about when Adeline gets lost while she’s on her way home and is ends up going inside a restaurant and uses a phone to call the house. Then Adeline is picked up by her dad and they drive some in silence. Also I think that Adeline’s dad doesn’t talk to her unless he has to. The second reason that I think the theme of Chinese Cinderella is “Family Relationships” is because Adeline doesn’t get along with her siblings. She is treated like she is nothing. In the beginning of chapter 4, it says that Big Sister cries and slaps Adeline with her strong right hand. Also it says that Ah Mao turns around when he heard the slap while Big Sister makes like nothing happened. When they get home, Big Sister jumps down and runs off, it’s like Big Sister did nothing and gets away with slapping Adeline. The third reason I think the theme of Chinese Cinderella is “Family Relationships” is because Adeline is always forgotten about. In chapter 6 it’s says how Cook see’s Adeline and she is the only one that isn’t at school. Cook feels that it isn’t his job to take her to school but he feels bad when Adeline starts to cry and takes her to school. If Adeline had a better relationship with her father or stepmother, then there wouldn’t be any problem on Adeline being forgotten to be dropped off at school. These are the three reasons on why I think hat the theme of Chinese Cinderella is “Family Relationships”.
I think the theme of the story "Chinese Cinderella" is courage. Adeline is pushed around by either her brother or sister but finds the will to forget about it and move on. When Adeline is beaten by her step mother, noone is the one who is there to help her. An example of courage is when Adeline finds the courage to stand up to her step mother and tells her step mom to quit beating her. she also walks home from school to prevent her aunt and grandpa from having trouble with niang.I think she is a couragous person and that the theme of the book will stay the same.
